Several
dozen community officials, state lawmakers, and business leaders packed the
Three Mile Island Training Center for the annual State of the Plant address.
TMI Site Vice President Ed Callan walked through a successful year in the
community. Our 675 employees spent more than 2,000 hours volunteering in the
community and donated more than $300,000 to local charities.
Callan
also expressed how proud TMI is to raise more than $40,000 for the Londonderry
Township Fire Dept. In 2017, the 12th Annual TMI Charity Golf
Tournament for the fire department surpassed $570,000 over the event’s history.
TMI
Women in Nuclear earned Small Chapter of
the Year honors from the U.S. WIN organization. TMI’s young professionals
group, NAYGN, raised nearly $19,000 for the Central Pennsylvania Polar Plunge
for Special Olympics. TMI remains committed to the community in 2018 by
conducting at least one public outreach event a month.
TMI
Decommissioning Transition Organization Director, Trevor Orth, discussed
regulatory milestones the plant is executing to shut down in September of 2019.
State Government Affairs Director, Thom Chiomento, discussed new findings from
The Brattle Group, which revealed closing nuclear plants would have an adverse
impact on Pennsylvania’s environment.
Pennsylvania’s
five nuclear power plants account for 93 percent of the Commonwealth’s
carbon-free electricity. TMI alone generates more power than all renewables
combined in PA.
The
TMI State of the Plant is just another way to remain transparent and keep our
valued neighbors informed.
