Oyster Creek Volunteers Helping the Community

Oyster Creek employees have more than electricity. They have power to make a difference. And many of them do so every day through work in their communities.

Exelon Generation encourages its employees to volunteer and serve in the communities, and many employees find organizations to help. In addition, each year, for at least three days, a number of Oyster Creek employees leave their regular jobs to help their neighbors in structured volunteer efforts.

This June, about 75 employees participated in three outreach activities:

  • They served as guides during the annual Youth Fishing Seminar, sponsored by the FishHawks fishing organization. At this event, about 25 sons and daughters of active military personnel stationed at McGuire/Fort Dix, spend the day learning about Barnegat Bay and its marine life, boating safety, and – of course – fishing! Not only do Oyster Creek employees volunteer for this event. It is cosponsored by Exelon Generation.
  • They cleaned up the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education. Pola Galie, Operations Manager at the Lighthouse Center, estimates that the team of 25 employees completed about $60,000 worth of maintenance and repairs to the facility.
  • They got the Citta Scout Camp ready for the summer. Another 20 employees spent a day working at the scout camp, building tents, painting, chipping wood, spreading mulch and repairing a camp-wide PA system.
