NMP's Derrick Falcetti Receives "Unsung Hero Award"

We are proud to share that Derrick Falcetti, Radiation Protection Supervisor, received this year’s “Unsung Hero Award” from the Children’s Board of Oswego. In a ceremony last night, Derrick was honored for his advocacy for Oswego youth through his partnership in the Oswego Boxing Club.

To paraphrase from one of the many letters written in support of his nomination: "He has taken in children and adolescents who do not always have a father figure in their life, and children who may not do well in school and could be potential dropouts. Derrick encourages them to be their best, learn new skills and be positive contributing members of society. Through boxing he teaches children and adolescents discipline, respect, hard work, dedication, perseverance, tolerance, acceptance and pride."

There were many letters from adults and children as part of Derrick’s nomination and they described the many ways in which Derrick is helping to shape some of our most at-risk local youth into productive members of our community. He stresses the importance of putting education first and maintaining good character. He often covers membership fees and digs into his own pocket to pay for gas and competition fees to ensure the kids can get to their training or matches out of town. Additionally, he takes them on fishing trips, invites them to his own home for cookouts and swimming and takes them to sporting events.

Congratulations Derrick!  We are tremendously proud to have you as a part of the Nine Mile Point team!  The work you do both here and in the community is outstanding.
