Diversity Makes Us Stronger, Better & More Compassionate

Diversity matters to us. We continually integrate diversity and inclusion into everything we do, whether it’s by creating new initiatives or by strengthening our existing practices.

Read on to explore our 2017 diversity and inclusion initiatives, and the ways we’re creating a culture that respects the ideas, strengths and needs of all.

Here's What We Did

Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Quarterly Webinars
Encouraging inclusivity. For the fifth consecutive year, we offered voluntary, live D&I quarterly webinars open to all employees. More than 2,000 employees participated in the webinar series, making it one of the most highly attended voluntary learning and development offerings in 2017. Participants explored topics like building inclusion, professional relationships, and racial and gender differences.

24-Hour Access to D&I Resources
Staying informed and engaged. All employees have 24-hour access to D&I tools and information via a dedicated intranet site. This site provides information on Exelon D&I partner organizations, Employee Resource Groups, event calendars, toolkits, articles, webinars and e-learning modules.

Value of Mutual Respect
Respect starts at the top. We value individuality and foster an inclusive culture, which is why we continue to roll out Value of Mutual Respect Training to our people managers. This training is an in-person, four-hour program that explores how to maintain a respectful work environment.

Employee Resource Groups (ERG)
A critical component of diversity and inclusion. Exelon has nine voluntary, employee-led ERGs that serve as a resource for members based on shared life experiences. Across our family of companies, there are 48 chapters and four new satellite groups at our Kennett Square location, which reach more than 10,000 employees. Current ERGs include the Exelon African-American Resource Alliance, Eco-Team, Exelon Pride and Network of Exelon Women. We count on these groups to help us live our diversity and inclusion values and execute our strategy.

2017 Exelon Women’s Leadership Summit
The Power of You. Female and emerging leaders across the company met at our second annual Women’s Leadership Summit to discuss how to support women’s success at Exelon. Business strategy mixed with honest conversations about how the path to leadership is not a solitary journey — resulting in ideas that will have a lasting impact on the company.

National Diversity Organization Partnerships
Connecting with diverse talent. We seek to attract, retain and advance employees who best represent our customers and the communities we serve. As part of our efforts we partner with a number of national diversity organizations to discover highly qualified minority talent in STEM fields, including the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE).

Military and Veterans Initiatives
Supporting careers for those who serve. Continuing in 2017, we renewed our commitment to hiring candidates with military experience. We attended 52 military recruiting events, many of which were hosted by our partner organizations including Civilian Jobs, Hiring Our Heroes, RecruitMilitary and Veteran Recruiting Virtual Career Fair. Today, veterans make up 12 percent of our employee base, exceeding the 10 percent employment goal set in 2016.

Disability Outreach
Everyone is welcome. We embrace the talents and skills that individuals with disabilities bring to our workplace and to the communities we serve. As part of our outreach, we promote our open jobs, increase brand recognition, support a disability-inclusive culture and share best practices with other businesses.

1 Billion Dollar Roundtable
Supporting diverse suppliers. Exelon is the first energy company to join the exclusive group of U.S.-based corporations that have achieved $1 billion or more in annual, direct spending with minority and women-owned businesses. In 2017, we spent nearly $2 billion with diversity-certified suppliers, an increase of $1 billion over the prior year.
