Continuously Creating a Sustainable Future

Our customers play a huge role in our goals of sustainability, reliability and producing clean energy.

Exelon operates in a way that is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable – and we take that responsibility very seriously

Sustainability is central to what we do. From investing in tools that encourage our 10 million energy company customers to be more energy efficient to serving as the nation’s largest producer of emissions-free energy, Exelon practices sustainability in every aspect of its enterprise and drives the industry forward every day.

Our advances receive recognition from multiple voluntary reporting initiatives annually, most recently in the 2017 Down Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). We’re extremely proud to rank among industry leaders for the 12th consecutive year because of excellence in environmental performance, innovation management, corporate governance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and talent attraction and retention. This year, Exelon was one of eight electric and gas companies named to the index.

For Exelon, being an industry leader means making a significant effort to deliver a cleaner, brighter energy future. Our customers are at the center of all we do, and we are proud to be recognized for our consistent efforts to innovate and develop solutions so we can deliver on our sustainability commitments to our customers and communities.

We continue to make progress toward our sustainability goals.

In 2016, we helped customers save 14.9 million MWh of energy and avoid 7.6 million metric tons of CO2 through utility energy-efficiency programs. Our customers helped save enough energy to power more than 1.5 million homes for one year.

Also in 2016, Exelon utilities were able to quickly address more than 600,000 service-related issues through the use of smart meters, allowing utilities to perform tasks remotely and therefore don’t need to send a truck, which cuts down on fuel emissions. The smart meters assist to confirm power has been restored following a storm and other power disturbances, which increases reliability and uptime.

Pepco, Exelon’s energy company in Washington D.C., showcased the value of sustainability through a living classroom and laboratory for sustainable energy and water practices. The Pepco WaterShed Sustainability Center features a solar home and hands-on, interactive displays that educate visitors with energy-saving ideas they can apply in their own homes. The Pepco Watershed is just one of Exelon’s many sustainability projects that’s saving money for our customers and protecting our environment.

Recognizing the value of constant improvement, we reach beyond compliance to advance our processes, develop more efficient energy and continuously drive progress for key sustainability issues. We never lose focus so we can build the next-generation energy company by creating value for our customers while simultaneously reducing our environmental footprint. Exelon’s utilities help you save energy and reduce your monthly bills by providing tools for customers to make energy choices so their homes and business more efficient.

We’ll maintain and grow our relevance and value to meeting your current and future energy needs.

These and other initiatives confirm our commitment to place sustainability at the heart of everything we do.  Here at Exelon, we believe that reliable, clean and affordable energy is essential to a brighter, more sustainable future.
